原義は「一緒に重ねる→重ね合わさった」。事を「(より)複雑にする、難しくする、理解しにくくする」という意味で使う。科学技術論文では、1.状況や問題などを「複雑にする、難しくする」、2.実験結果の解釈などを「理解しにくくする」というように使う。
