原義は「再び求める」。基本的な意味は「特定の状況に適するもの、設定した目的のために欠かせないものなどを必要とする、要求する」。"need"とオーバーラップする部分がある。1.人、物や事が、～を「必要とする」、2.人や事が、～を「(人に)要求する」という意味で使う。
