真空隔壁に用いるポリマーの薄膜が無いEDS検出器。隔壁がないので、それによるX線の吸収が無く、低エネルギーの特性Ｘ線の検出感度が良い。そのため、原子番号 3 のLiまでのすべての元素が検出できる。ただし、検出器を冷却しているので、試料室を大気にする時には、隔壁がないために検出器に霜が付くのを防ぐために常温に戻す必要がある。また、低真空モードでは検出器が汚染されるため使用できない。

An EDS detector that does not use a window material (polymer thin film) to isolate vacuum. Since the windowless detector suffers no X-ray absorption by the window material, the detector has a high detection sensitivity for low-energy characteristic X-rays. The detector can analyze light elements down to lithium (Li) whose atomic number is 3. It should be noted that, when the specimen chamber is exposed to an atmospheric environment, the temperature of the detector must be returned to room temperature to prevent frost because it is used in a cooling state. In the low vacuum mode, the detector cannot be used because it suffers contamination.
