ウルトラミクロトームで使われるナイフの一種。厚板ガラスにガラス切りで傷を付けた後、力を加えて割り、鋭利な刃を作るが、専用の作製装置もある。半世紀以上使われてきたものであるが、最近ではダイヤモンドナイフなどが多く使われるようになっている。ガラスナイフは安価で使い捨てができることから、粗削りに使われることが多い。

“Glass knife” is a kind of knives used with an ultra microtome. To make a glass knife, a plank glass is scared by glass-cutting and cracked by force. This process produces a sharp edge of the glass knife. Also, a dedicated tool for creating the glass knife is available. Since the glass knife is inexpensive and disposable, the knife is most often used for rough cutting.
